Is it possible to read data from the infrared adapter?

Or if I have a remote control and I press some keys, from my device that has IRDA, can I receive the signal?

Thanks Erel for the answer. Also exclusive libraries for Samsung would be good, because it's for me, to test and to make a fuss if the remote works.
