It is like an .exe file. The source is not there for the most common customer. But like mc73 said, it can be decompiled just like an .exe file can. In most terms you are as safe with an .apk file as you are the .exe file.
An apk file is actually a zip file. If you have a "xyz.apk" rename it to "xyz.apk.zip" or so, open it with a zip program. Then you can view it's contents.
You can use Code Obfuscation in B4A to make Reverse engineering a little more difficult.
