"As part of the settlement announced Thursday, Apple is guaranteeing the lower commission for small developers will be extended for at least three more years."

Wow, I didn't know apple's 15% commission had an expiration date!

I wonder if google's 15% rate has one?

Finally! This has always felt wrong to me. Imagine if the Newsagent you bought your magazine from, insisted they get 30% of anything you buy advertised in that magazine?
Not allowing apps to allow for purchases outside the app store has always been the biggest problem I've had with the appstore.

Same here, andymc. It's the major reason why my company had stopped developing for iOS.

From what I just read this morning, though, their new policy will only apply to non-game types of apps (which we don't develop anyway) and there's some disagreement on exactly what "subscription type" apps they're talking about allowing a re-direct from their App Store purchases. Is it only things like Netflix or magazine types of apps? Almost all of our apps/services are subscription based but they're business solutions and not media, social-media, etc. The apps are free but to actually do anything useful you have to subscribe to the service and a lot of the value is in the web portal (many B4J served) where the apps send data for the customer company.
