Autosize Label based on it's text

Is it possible to stretch a label (increase particularly the height) based on the length of it's text? You know like the Label.AutoSize=True option from VB.

Thanks klaus, this works. But it seems label2's height gets increased all the way till the bottom of the screen, may be even more. If you set the Label2.Color=Colors.White, you can see it going down.

One more question. Is it possible to know the height of the label after autosizing has taken place? I tried label2.height but returns -2. I was thinking of using it inside a Scrollview. So to set the panel height I need to know the heights of all views.

Wow! I need to learn more about this Reflector library. But not knowing Java is the hindrance :(

It would be great if someone could post a simple tutorial for Reflector library that demos some features that are not currently available natively to B4A.

I don't have any Java knowledge either.
I look at the examples given in the library's demo program and then with the Android documentation I try adding some missing features.

Just a heads up guys. That code with reflection library will not work on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). StringUtils.MeasureMultilineTextHeight works great though.

So if any old project still uses the reflection library code, now is the time to switch to StringUtils.MeasureMultilineTextHeight.

Hey, just found this thread and was happy to have solution for my problem. I needed also an autosizing label. and everything works fine, but I also need to find out the current width of the label.
I set the height and the width to -2, it's autosizing correctly. But when I want to check the values it will be -2.
I get the height with StringUtils.MeasureMultilineTextHeight, but there is no function for the width.

Is it possible to read the right width?

@Quillok To be able calculate the Height calling MeasureMultilineTextHeight, the label first needs to have a valid (positive) width. And the width must be decided by you.

Because the text flows horizontally, the program can't know how many rows the text will occupy unless it knows the lenght of the lines.

And in case the only information you can provide is the number of lines:

You can calculate how many pixels would occupy a string in a single line, with a particular typeface, on a particular size, using the MeasureStringWidth method from the Canvas object. Then you divide the lenght of the text in pixels by the number of lines you want, and it will give you the width of the label. Once the width is set, call MeasureMultilineTextHeight to know the Height.

But you must decide something, either the number of lines, or the width (easier).

I believe the width is a constant set by you, not the text. How are you currently setting the width? You can set the label's width to a percentage of the screen (Label.width = 66%x).

Thats the code for both buttons.
I think it's possible to solve this. Because I know the label will only have 2 Lines, i could give the label a huge width, so that there will be no cutted lines. Then i can get the height with the StringUtils. After I've got this I could reduce the width step by step until the height is getting bigger, which means the line was splittet and there a now 3 lines.

I think this could work but is there an easier way to find it out? Like MeasureMultilineTextHeight with one single command?

And the proposal of joseluis sounds good, but when i wan't to change the font or not every letter has the same space requirements it would also not work correctly i think :/

You can use the -2 value for the Width and Height propeties.
To get the real values you should use the Reflection library.
Attached a small test program and the code below.
At start, the width = 100 and the height = 60
Clicking the Button sets the two propeties to -2.
The Label adapts the width to the longuest line and the height to the numbers of lines.
Be careful, if the longuest line is longer than the width of the parent view of the Label this one will not be entirely visible. Same for the height.
