Android Question Help With Turning off Device

Hello,
I have been trying to find a way to make a program which puts my device to sleep or standby (not shutoff). I have been looking through the forums and all I could find was ways to awake the device. I appreciate your help.

It is not possible to make the device sleep (on unrooted devices). If I remember correctly it was possible on Android 2.x and with a hack. This hack no longer works.
