How to save and retrieve background image

I've been gone for a few months, so readdressing a problem I have. My app puts a contact photo as a button background and a label for the contact name. When app is closed and reoppened the background photo image is gone but the button and button label is still there, all functional. Maybe a snippit of code to save and retrieve the contact photo? You can save the contact name or id and then in Activity_Create load the background and set it.
