The images below were taken today during my snowshoe hike with 5 friends.
The valley in the background is the Rhone valley east from Martigny.

I live in the first village in the valley you see on the left side of the Rhone.

Still amazing that these tennis racket like things spread the weight enough so that you don't step deep into the snow.

@coslad : where is that photo been taken?

You are also the most hardy, dressed in your plaid short sleeve shirt!

Nice to be able to put a face to a true inspiration and following of many.

Glad to see you enjoy the meaning of life (with true friends) - mother nature in her finest glory.

From those elevations (as everywhere on this planet) feed my fondest desire... clear flowing streams... filled with various trout species that I love to watch feed in their natural environment. Forgive me if I often tease them with a dry fly on the end of my line.

I think next year I shall remove the hook on my flies and be satisfied they actually went for my tied offering - no harm - no foul.
Lord knows I have tormented my fair share... and hopefully released them safely to feed again.

Thanks for your wonderful post.

Oh no. The oldest is 76, I am 71 and the others are younger, the two youngest are 65.
We hiked from an altitude of 1350m up to 1800m.
When I make some effort I am always hot, even in winter under the sun.
The picture was taken when we arived.

Yes I see it.. but how did you get there? I don't want to ask why, because after all, this is free country :)

I have little memory.

But I have a sweet memory of my childhood. My sister and I are walking on a beach of Rome... on the snow, with a whole big box of chocolate desserts :D

The only one "real" (big) snowfall in Rome in my entire life.

@ilan: Did you see any snow in your young life so far?

Yes i had, i am from this planet and was not born on the moon o_O

btw. when i was 8 years old i moved with my family to Austria (neighbor of germany) i lived there for about 14 years. this is also the reason why i speak german very well. Here in israel we also have snow (in jerusalem and north israel)

(i visited at Dec. 2014 my parents in vienna with my wife and 3 kids)

1979-1980 New Year eve in Germany.. just google for it.. I don't like to remember that night!
Temperature dropped more than 50o C in a few hours, from ~ +20 to -40
I had no way to watch the news because I didn't speak German, and one day I needed to go out buy food but all stores were closed,
no one walking or driving in the street.. only a few cars.. finally I saw a kiosk and it was open.. I went there only to find they sold icecream!
The kiosk was so warm so I started to eat it, but the store owner told me it's take out only.
