Listing installed apps and uninstalling them

There are temporary files that remember what applications are installed and where the files/registry keys are.

Would there be a way to find and remove applications?

I know a way to shell the "remove programs" menu, but being able to list ALL installed applications would make for a great tool with Gecko (to check installed applications and update them?).

I looked around the files and registry and found where this information is.

Windows\AppMgr\Application name\????.tmp

The only problem is that I'm unable to open that file. With Resco Viewer (Resco Explorer app), I see a bunch of squares and text between the characters. It looks like XML ("<" and ">") and has info about registry, among other things.
