Why didn't this exist 10 years ago (see video)?

A lot of devices get damaged from reconnecting the charger all the time.
or the connector gets pushed into the device from the push in pressure.

With this (or the none magnetic mini mini-usb pass through connectors) you can keep your original connection as new.

These things look like a great idea.

I was about to buy several from eBay until I looked at reviews on Amazon.com.

The reviews mentioned several problems, but I wonder if the reviews are true.

• The magnet is too strong. At pulls the USB thingy out of the socket.
• Charging is much slower than a direct USB connection (???).
• The magnetic connection is a dirt collector and quickly makes the connection unreliable.

Could people who have bought these briefly post their experiences about the product?

Today my cables arrived ("some similar chinese ones"). Good quality and loads as fast as the stock cable.

About the dirt magnet comment...
Well, it's a magnet! It will attract iron based debris...
My main concern would be the magnet interference in the overall performance of the device, like gsm and GPS signal
