Maybe a bug but I thought I would post it here as an FYI for those folks like me who are used to Windows.
When using the smb.listfiles command I inadvertently use backslashes (\) instead of forward slashes (/) ie. \\myserver\mydir - I believe I also left off the ending slash if that makes a difference.
The error I received was:
