I am trying to build a protractor (which measures whether the device is being held level or at an angle).

The standard orientation sensors (X, Y and Z) don't provide reliable-enough values (as can be also witnessed when playing with the Orientation sample code in this forum).
As has been commented before: all X, Y and Z sensors seem to influence one another.

There is a Protractor app in the playstore that has managed to overcome this:

How have they managed to build such an accurate device?
