(legally) - means deep pockets. Have you got lots of money (to pay to lawyers)?
Some do protect their patents (big companies) - only because they have unlimited resources (legal conceal).

Try that with overseas (or local) pirates who dupe your app or patent. Good luck with that. Nothing protects you - except huge sums of money if you wish to pursue (see: Apple vrs Samsung).

Make your app the best. Keep updating your app to be the best. Let consumers be the judge whether your app is THE best.

There is your PROTECTION. Need further protection - wear a condom...
