Q. re. operation of the GPS tutorial

To learn more about the operation of the GPS in the phone I compiled and ran the tutorial (seems like a good place to start, eh?).

What I noticed was that satellite info. was quickly received, but Lat & Long was not displayed for some time.

I debugged, and sure enough "Location_Changed" was often not called.

I attach a picture showing an example, soon after starting the program.
Could someone outline to me what's occurring?

PS I was hoping to use GPS in a way to quickly turn it on, get a location, and turn it off again. But if it's not going to actually register a location for a minute or so then that won't work... don't know how best to do it.

The GPS requires reception of 3 or more satellites in order to calculate the position.

If the GPS was recently running then it usually finds the satellites quickly. Otherwise it may take several minutes.

It takes a variable but usually significant period of time to get a valid fix after turning on a GPS unit. See Time to first fix - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. It won't usually be instant.

Well that blows my "let's just quickly grab the location while we're in an update form" idea out of the water.
