Android Question Set New Line Character in the IME Filter?

I am currently using IME in a project where I have used IME to set custom filters in a multi-line edittext. However I cannot understand how to set/allow the new line character in the custom filter? Such that when the soft keyboard press new line button, IME does not block it?

What happens when you set a filter without the new line character? Doesn't the enter button work?

No. The enter button does not work.
