I know it is possible to reduce the font size but there is not more text displayed when you do so. This would be great to display more text on the screen.

Are you sure about that?
I have a VGA device, and with the default font size I get about 30 characters across the screen in portrait mode...When I reduce the font size I can get to over 50 characters per line...

I do see more text when I reduce the font size.
