    I noticed that buttons on 2.x are having a nice light gray gradient with black text.

    On 4.x it's suddenly darkgray and you need to force the text to white to make it readable
    but then it's not readable anymore in 2.x.

    Is there a way to force a style to a regular button so that it's the same on all OS versions?

    ok, setting the text color to default solves the button text color issue but the button is still looking too dark on my black background.

    the same thing happends with edittext boxes.

    What did you set the theme to? You can set it to Holo.Dark would that be ok?

    @thedesolatesoul :

    Previously I didn't set a theme.

    Now it's set to "theme" (which is the same as theme.light)

    Its using the devices default theme. I think you should test on multiple devices/android versions if it looks right. But as long as you are using default values it should be fine.
