Toggle button bar backlight on ??

Hi...

Is there a way to control the button bar (menu, home, back, search) backlight?

I need to turn it on in a couple of places in my app to help users to avoid hitting the home key.

AFAIK there is no way to control the buttons brightness. In fact on many devices there is only one level of brightness.
