for me it was Saint Jardin (read garden).

Was a year without job and did/had some serious rebuilding on my house so I'm near broke :)

So no holiday abroad for me.

Maybe because I live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world (it is not my merit, of course, nor the beauty of the country or to be born), perhaps because I do not like too many news, but I do not understand people who feel the need to holidays abroad and do not know their own country!

I know that many places in the world are great, but often we do not know those of our country, I mean this.

As far as I am about to write, I will be banned for life, but only because I go out of the topic :D

Paternoster (Should be Pater Noster :)): I am a Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu... the sum = ? (easy and nice quiz)

Luca, then come and visit Pater Noster (actual name in SA is Paternoster). One can sit there all day long and do nothing and enjoy it and when you are hungry you just walk down the road to Blikkies Pizzeria - as good as back home! You need to get to 32.8167S 17.8833E

actually in (belgian) dutch a paternoster is that chain with the cross and a lot of "pearls" and they used it to count their prayers.

@sorex, come and enjoy a break at Paternoster. No matter the correct spelling or the correct meaning. You will enjoy it as it is such a relaxing little fishing village. Even my two doggies love it there. That's why I am taking them there again between Xmas and New Year. From where I live - 19 hours of driving. You can travel from Europe to there in a shorter time than what it takes me to drive there when flying to Cape Town from Europe including the approximate 160km drive from Cape Town to Paternoster. Come and relax!

ah, now I understand: it must be more or less as the center of New York :D.

I did not want to correct the name of that place, a name is a name.

I pointed out that it is a name consisting of two Latin words:
Pater = Father and Nostro = Our (so, Our Father).

the "chain with the cross and a lot of "pearls" and they used it to count Their prayers" here in Italy is called Rosario.

I was thinking and actually have planned to spend part of it in Germany.. but I saw people from all over the world coming to New York .. so I said why not go to NY!!
5 bucks for round trip on the PATH train is not a big deal.. so I took my camera, went to Times Square and pretended a tourist.. taking photos here and there, I really enjoyed it.

I have to post a "Wish".

Erel should allow short voice messages. In this way I could now post...

♪ "Start spreading the news, I am leaving today..." ♪

Or:

♪ "Arrivederci, Roma; goodbye, au revoir" ♪

(of course with my voice, much better than the voice of... "the voice" :p)

We had a couple of weeks in Portugal, down in the Algarve, with some excellent weather. Earlier on we'd also had a week in Marrakech, which I can recommend.

I managed to get a couple of trips over to Le Mans, in France as well! Once for the 24 hours itself, for a week and once for the Classic 24hrs, but only a weekend :)

Other than a brief weekend in Amsterdam, no proper holiday this year.

Last year, however, I visited Modica, in Sicily, by train from London. London->Paris->Milan, then two nights in Milan, Milan->Siracusa, and a night there, before Modica for a week, then Modica->Palermo by coach, 3 nights there, Palermo->Rome for one night, then an early train to Venice for a day's sightseeing, before the sleeper train from Venice to Paris and then back home.

You see so much more than if you fly. Also, you don't get treated as badly on a train :)

I'm not one to travel over seas. This year I went to Cornwall (UK) as I have done for the last 15 years. Really enjoyed as always ;)

Can't help but agree with LucaMs that exotic and foreign holidays are the creation of a travel industry on steroids. I live half-an-hour from London and when there am surrounded by tourists from around the globe. They are visiting sites many of which I have not yet seen myself.

Last holiday in Northumbria (North-East England near the Scottish border).

Where would I NOT go on holiday? Any country that has the cheek to take my finger prints on entry.
