If you have another hobby, think if there is something related to that that you can build an app around.

Focus on real existed clients' needs or predict near-term needs. If both fail, generate needs, after all this is the most frequent seen in our times. If not for educational purposes, stop looking at others' creations. Chances are many others do exactly the same. Talk with friends. Ask them, if there's something missing from their toolbox. There will aways be some.
