Direct downloads : Telegram

I noticed that Telegram recently announced a direct download link and wondered if this relates to: the experience of a seemly increasing number of forum members writing about Google becoming More controlling about placing APPs on Playstore and rejections.....note comment in the capture about less restrictions. Will more line up to provide direct downloading?

I was just intrigued by the notion that more companies / service entities might begin to create APK download points on/from their own web spaces, rather than go through the hoops that one apparently now has to jump through with Play store. ( I suppose that the "hoops" are created in large part by the legal requirements and regulations around the world - google would have to try for the middle of the road in order to accommodate the many different flavours.)

More of a rhetorical question but still it will be interesting to watch what happens with regard to this.
