All,

My friend has a Google G1 phone that I am very interested to buy from him. But I have a t-mobile phone already. I heard that if I put the t-mobile sim card on the G1, t-mobile would recognize the G1 as smart phone device and start charging me for the data plan. Can someone very this?

Also, I plan to use my wireless router at home for the G1 internet connection. I just not willing to pay for more data plan when I don't really have to.

You can use the G1 as a developer phone without a Sim and use Wifi unless you need voice (phone) or texting functionality in your app.

I don't know I need it or not. But if I use wifi then I can do texting right? Or I still need data plan.
