I need to create an RFID Reader.

Hi there, i'm not too familiar with this kind of devices, but my first bet would be that you may need a separate device to activate the tag and read the information from it, you can then send that information to the phone and display the wanted data, there's already chips out there that will make the job a lot easier for you, check out this one.

Let us know if you come up with something, i would also like to play around with something like this.

The Sparkfun reader kit looks promising...thanks for the link.
I'll have to do more digging to see if I can control the frequency. In the U.S. Pet ID chips use one of three frequencies, depending on the manufacturer. In the interest of having a universally useful app, I'd like to be able to read all three frequencies and deturmine who made the chip. This will help immensely when trying to find a lost pet's owner.

For the Sparkfun kit, it looks pretty straight forward...and should be easy enough to build a rig that plugs into the USB port on a device...or to modify a cheap BT headset to wirelessly scan.

I'll report back with findings...and if there are any other ideas, I'd love to hear them.

glad you found the link useful, keep us informed if you come up with something, i would love to see one of this systems built and interfaced with an android phone.

Seeedstudio also has some stuff and also make sure to check out the IOIO.

Seeedstudio also has the IOIO on stock and you can combine it with an RFID reader that they also have. Problem is, they are in China but reliable.
