The same code, with compatible libs, works perfect in my Wemos D1 R2 (8266)... but throws a lot of compile time errors... and I am simply lost.

It's classed as an ESP32/ESP-32S/ESP-WROOM-32/NodeMCU-32S WiFi Development Board. I have a few different variants of them, but they all connect as the same board in both Arduino/B4R IDE's.

Do you have multiple URLs (2) in the Arduino board manager, you should easily Fing the board in B4R board selection?
