or Winning the game

I have never been good at sales.

Once when I was really poor I got a telesales job at a local newspaper and I was crap at it and people really don't like getting called on the phone away from their dinner to be told that yes I had seen the ad for their car but I was only calling to ask if they'd like to renew it.

Lots of 'PLEASE REMOVE ME FROM YOUR LIST' type answers.

Seth Godin is a guy who sees all this from another angle, look him up.

Short and sweet:
People are very good at forgetting and even better at ignoring.
If you plant an ad in someone's face they are really good at ignoring it.

As an example (one from a Seth Godin speach) lets say you are driving along the road and past a field and you see a cow.

Ok, a cow, you think nothing of it.

Same scenario but its a mauve cow.

Now what do you think?

Seth says forget about everyone that will ignore you and concentrate on those that might find your thing interesting, he says that for those that find your thing interesting even if they have no intention of buying it, they'll talk about it.

You already imagined the niche when you made your app.

A good ad for that niche, let's say you're selling can openers, no, trying to get people to join your gym, what could be more boring?

It's all about context, how do people see your ad and in what context?

Here's an ad I made today for trying to get people to join a gym.... remember first impressions
