Android Question Wear 2.0 requires Play store to deploy app to watch

With Wear 1.x I was able to deploy apps to my Asus ZenWatch2 by putting the .apk files in the Objects\res\raw folder of the related phone app. This functionality has been removed in Wear 2.0 and now it appears that I must install from the Play store only. These are not commercial apps and so I don't want the hassle of using the Play store. Does anyone know of a workaround?

Interesting, maybe there is a browser that you could use to d/l the install file from a remote location?

Load the Play store app on the watch and scroll down to the 'Apps on your phone' section. The app name should show up in the list- tap it and there you go! Not nearly the panic that I jumped to!
