annoying first-step problem

HOW TO ADD TEXT TO A LABEL.

i 've created some design, added label1
Dim Label1 As Label
dim cards(300) as string

in activity create i add
cards(1)="heart"
label1.text = cards(1)

and no text appears

   Label1.Initialize("")   
   Label1.TextSize= 30
   
   Activity.AddView(Label1,0dip,0dip,100dip,50dip)

   cards(1)="heart"
