Auto wakeup from sleep

Hello all,

I am a newbie. I am trying to sound an alarm using Mediaplayer object as an alarm clock. Now here is the problem :

I have to keep the application running all the time. How can i make the alarm clock still running even after i close the application? or when android goes to sleep mode by itself?
