Waiting forever for the AVD I read about GenyMotion so I installed it. I don't see that it is any faster to load than the AVD emulator. Is it just me or is there something I am missing?

Also, what is the best device to emulate for initial development?

    Thanks,
    Tony

Nothing beats a real device, no matter how cheap it is.

To load? That's not the point here. All emulated devices require some loading time. What is needed is fast execution and Genymotion is a lot faster than the official emulator. It's probably the best choice for an emulator.
I do agree that a real device is better than an emulator but no one has hundreds of devices at hand so using an emulator is mandatory to try various screen resolutions, screen ratios or OS versions. Genymotion is very close to what you get on a real device. You can even reproduce the OS bugs.

It was the load time that was so slow. Anyway, I took the advice and purchased an Android phone to use for development, works much better.
