Doesn't 2024 SUCK?

On 1/2 Jan some *&^$*(_))((V, @*#&#))@), **#)*)*$, thieving BLSDJOPURLKN: tried to scam a LOT of money from my daughter - who tried to get out of it but just seemed to fall deeper into the chain of bu**sh*t.

Fortunately she did along the way realise and was able to get her bank to stop the payments going anywhere. We checked various places (Like Paypal apparently the main destination for her funds) and found that nothing was there. She had, having realised, what was going on, not put her bank detail into Paypal. But, after 2 hours in the Police Station, and another long session with the bank fraud division and in the brick-and-mortar bank offices it appears that a lucky escape was experienced.

I myself was nearly caught just before christmas - but got the card blocked - but still - more time in a bank to get a replacement.

So, yes, 2024 already sucks in this household.

AND we still have the AI-bunnies in their garages and polar-fleece hoodies to come . . .

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Advice stay off DISCORD.

I experienced something by far similar at the end of 2023. No IP has increased their fees dramatically almost doubled it and I was searching for a replacement for this. I found one and tried to get 10 years of a URL for my appliances. What happened was that I got an alarm from the antivirus that the URL was a skam and a trial to take over my computer with malware. I immediately reported this to PayPal but I got a negative response saying that if the good is materially close to the described one then they have nothing to do with it and it is considered ok. Go Figure... The result was that I lost around 12 euros. Not much of course but why... I responded to pay pal "Please define 'materially' in a digital good..." ??? They did not answer. I suppose they are still thinking of the answer...

They're waiting for ChatGPT to figure it out (or their "new" AI Division). A bit disturbing that PayPal dodged the issue with that response....makes one wonder - oh wait - it's Big Business - I nearly forgot.......

Incidentally - at our exchange rate that's a Lot of money in our currency.....even more than at the Lolly-Pop USA currency.

This is roughly 4 milks of 1 litter without lactose. How much does the same cost in South Africa?

Unfortunately scammers are getting cleverer by the week, if tech savvy people are getting scammed (us developers), what chance to people with little knowledge of IT stand? It appears that 'being careful' is no longer good enough to protect us from those who would take from us without earning it :(

Please do not think that Greeks are rich. We are just idiots since the same products by multi-national companies are sold cheaper even in Dubai. The government is determined to end this and sure thing I hope they will do.

Totally true. And I have learned about it in a tech site like github. Good for me...

1 litre full-cream milk R21.00 (1.02522 Euro just now). I don't know if we have no lactose milk.

Actually, the exchange rate comparison doesn't work for me. It seems more 'accurate' to me to ask what percentage of your income does X or Y expense represent.

But, technically, scammers don't have an income, so, as they say, the question would be moot. What isn't moot is that they are a bunch of D*GYJ*LBC*TESC.
