Can anyone tell me what that grey box with black line is, and most importantly how can I remove it?

I guess you are on Windows CE rather than Windows Mobile. If memory serves me correctly that is an empty menu bar. Windows CE Forms are a bit different to Windows Mobile. In previous times this issue sometimes arose but the forum search seems unable to pinpoint any references to it. I think it might be removable by setting the Form Menu property to null using reflection, but I can't remember for sure It's my age y'know!
