Perhaps you already know. But if not, this is what I was proposed by a host.

Let's encrypt offers free SSL certificates (and they work great without any warning compared to self signed ones). URL : letsencrypt [.] org

Looks like their certificates are only valid for 3 months!

Another free alternative is startssl [.] com They are valid for 1 year.

Also there is another option for up to 3 Years Free SSL from china. You can reach to issuer by https://wosign.com/english for all free certificate needs. They are also using StartSSL as Root CA.
