Landscape question

On my Samsung Galaxy S2 I can turn the phone to landscape with the menu, home & back buttons to the left or 180 degrees to have them on the right side of the phone.

Is there a way to tell which side they are on?

I want to build myself a custom menu where I use a panel and buttons and I'd like to have it "dock" on the side of the menu button in landscape.

In portrait the menu will be at the bottom.

Any ideas?

yes I know that - it shows if it's landscape but how do I know where the menu, home & back buttons are?

On my phone you can have them either side in landscape.
