layout loading procedure

Since by now I tend to create as many layouts as possible in order to have compatibility with as many as I can tablets and phones, I was wondering about the loading procedure of a layout. Is it some kind of 'select case'? If so, is there any latency involved if I have, say, 10 different variants?
Furthermore, erel, could it be possible to have an option like 'compile just the proper variants' when we install an app using the bridge or usb?

Using the Designer Scripts will avoid doing that.

I have apps where I use the script. Then other apps where I handle everything by code. Still, there are apps where I decided to manually design, cause I change the style depending on which model I use.
