I think they are using C++ of Visual Studio Express, the free one.
They are trying to save bucks but wants benefits of both worlds !!

the overhead of writing code twice is less than the cost of making code-sharing work.
I think this line says it all.
A company like dropbox must never do concessions. They have resources so yes, in this case: better write twice. The product benefits from it.
