2 New mobile os are ready to occupy the mobile market . The firefox os is almost ready and new devices with this os will be in the market within few days . Another one is Tizen and big player Samsung is trying a new device (may be s4) with tizen . Unlike windows 8 , both of these having open source nature and may be successful in the market .

Good luck to all (and RIM's new OS), considering the strangle hold Android currently has (mostly due to previous Samsung sales success).

I love dabbling in new OS and programming languages - NOT!

Like Win RT, how can these new entrants be taken seriously? Of course, Android fit the previous statement when it first started...

Just because the only constant is change; doesn't really mean that WE must change constantly... at least not at this pace.

At least RIM had a client base when they introduced PlayBook - they just didn't have a developer community willing to follow...

Anyone, please feel free to correct my ignorant viewpoint (IMO) and enlighten us all.

Samsung and Chinese Giant Huawei will deploy smartphones in the first quarter of 2013, with Tizen installed.. there are news that Android apps will run on those devices.

I have to agree, thinking that a "new" OS will replace Android or even dent its popularity it's just a dream. I have tried MeeGo and others, but, where are they now?, besides, whatever "new" OS will have to take over the huge market share Android have, so far it's over 72%, even iOS is becoming a niche market in my opinion, Microsoft's WinOS will also go nowhere.

Another thing to consider, even Google itself cannot compete against Android, one example is the Chrome OS, how many people are getting those "cloud" laptops?, they are cheap but still people buy Nexus 7's like crazy.

Just my opinion.

people like the same. That's why they don't switch auto insurers or cell phone carriers. They stick with the same old. They live in the same apartment/house way too long, wear that old football jersey way too long and generally don't like change. The older a person gets, the less change they want. That is why Android and Windows will stay king. It's that simple.

May be in short time , no os can gain popularity as android has . But Firefox os's features look graet and real experience can only reveal the truth .

Speaking of such... how did this happen?

1. cause it was google?
2. cause Palm died and mobile needed something other than CE (which sucked more with each version release)?
3. cause open source got together (believed and stuck together) to make something kickass?
4. cause java and Eclipse are easy to adopt for the majority?
5. cause the design, structure and Linux (and free) nature of Android (although foreign to many at first) make it perfectly extendable, where, for the most part, a newer version won't obsolete the previous.
6. where basically brain dead morons can write (basic) code to create world class mobile applications using B4A?

Note: Item 6 - only I resemble the first half of that remark... lol

Happy New Year !!!
