I'm looking at getting a new tablet to replace my Acer A500. Not sure how to compare tablets in the marketplace. Anyone have any tips on purchasing a new android tablet?

The new Nexus 7 is fantastic. I had some initial concerns whether 7" and the format would work for me (my previous tablets had been bigger), but it was just a matter of a few days of getting used to it. It's gorgeous, snappy, crisp, and inexpensive for what it offers. If you want something bigger, I'd wait for an updated Nexus 10 that I think (purely speculative) will come around soon.

The new Kindle Fire HDX that Amazon announced yesterday has very sexy hardware. Faster CPU and GPU than the Nexus 7.2, though it lacks the front camera, GPS and SlimPort, at the same price. But the software side is worse and Amazon isn't that great when it comes to long-term support for their devices. Like Erel said, I would also stick to a more "independent" tablet. You will probably be happier that way.
