New Wi-Fi AX - Talk about off-topic

My Buffalo router (more than 10 years old) is showing signs of dying – every so often the wired connection to the TV stops responding and I have to reboot the router.

I'm looking at a replacement. Right now I am looking at TP-Link. They have a Wi-Fi 5 model I'm looking at, A2600, that supports all the older protocols and a Wi-Fi 6 model, AX3000, that supports the Wi-Fi ax protocol.

Now being an old guy, and not looking at routers for the last 10 years, does anyone have any comments about these? I've seen that there have been some problems with Samsung devices on the AX model (I have a Samsung tablet). The A model claims to have faster 2.4 GHz throughput, 800 Bps versus 574 Bps - 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is what I use mostly.

Does anyone have suggestions for their favorite midrange Wi-Fi router – think around $100-$150.

I'm asking here since the opinions from this group have proved to be way better than anything I've seen anywhere else.

Thanks,
Barry.

Used to use a TP-link but changed it to a Totolink A1004 which has 2.4 and 5Ghz. A friend has a Mikrotik - don't know which model - and the incoming receiver dish on the roof here which catches a signal from about 25km -30 km is also Mikrotik.

Don't really have much more information than that but the stuff in house here has been "black-box" working well. I have an esp32 running through it as well. The Totolink is giving me about 35m from the main router - but it is pretty much open ground around the house.

Maybe have a look at those. Mikrotik has a good reputation among the more up-to-speed of my friends.

I don't recall why I changed from TP-link anymore. Maybe it was just about 'gut' strength of the thing. Oh just remembered the old satellite system we had out here had a Billion - but it didn't have enough in wired link facilities. I worked Ok though.

Seems like Mikrotik would be a good brand to investigate......

[edit] just looked at some MikroTik and remembered that the TP-Link just didn't have the internal speed (downstream side of the router to my PC and stuff) offered by the Totolink I now use.

Thanks. I ended up getting the TP-Link AC2600 for about $109 from Amazon.

So far, after only a day, it's working great. Speed as far as I can tell is very good, and it has both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. My old router was 2.4 GHz only.

The box claims it is "Affordable High Performance" and it received the No 1 award from J.D. Power for 2019 – if you believe the box.

It was very easy and fast to set up – only about 15 minutes. I was dreading setting up a new router.

So far so good. I hope it lasts. I will have to look at the names you mentioned. Here the USA, I've never heard of those brands.

Barry.
