Android Question Possible to make spinner look same on all devices?

I have found that on my Nexus 7, even with one universal layout, spinners look fine. The backgrounds are see through and look nice but on my Samsung Galaxy S4 the same spinners have a coloured background that looks ugly.

Is it possible to make the spinner look see through across devices, or is there a reason why the devices differ in how the spinner appears?

Edit: I didn't find the answer when searching but have found the answer, setting the spinner colour to transparent is the answer although I am unsure why some devices show it as transparent by default.
