How can I output to the log, so I can monitor variables without being in debug mode?

There's no need to be in debug mode to see the logs, you just need to connect your device to the IDE, on the right hand panel, bottom of the screen you will see a "Logs" tab click there and that's all, unchecking the "filter" box will show ALL messages in the device not only your app.

I understand what you're saying, but I want to see the values of certain variables, without being in debug mode.

Currently, It just tells me that it's connected to my device and some other useless info.

In other SDE's, I've been able to print to the console, which I assume would be the same as printing to the Log.
