Quite by accident

I got a new Oppo phone - Hmmmm.
It comes with some crappy Google apps (why am I surprised? One might expect better).

Anyway I digress.

I looked around for a substitute Dialer and found one (Simple Dialer).

Here's the quite by accident bit - on their site I found this quite interesting read and a related site from a link in the blog post this goes to (#1 below). Maybe you know this stuff but I think many would find this invasion into your phone usage well explained. And what the alternatives could be.

SimpleOS
MicroG Project

((Incidentally - as well - Oppo locks into Google in a hard way - like locked to Gmail which harvested all all accounts and displays them - haven't figured out how to stop that even after installing a preferred mail client. Seems manufs decide our defaults for us now.))

I've switched to CalyxOS now. https://calyxos.org/ Works with the MicroG project.

CalyxOS is an Android mobile operating system that puts privacy and security into the hands of everyday users. Plus, proactive security recommendations and automatic updates take the guesswork out of keeping your personal data personal.

The only downside it that it only works on Pixels and the FairPhone.

Very simple to install.
