iOS Question Recommendation for first iOS device

I would like to do my first development using B4i, but I don't have any iOS devices (I have Windows and Android). So, I am thinking about investing in an iOS device, but I'd like a recommendation. I read in the requirements that, if one is not familiar with the Mac OS, then go with the hosted option even if one has access to a Mac computer. So, that suggested to me to, first, try development on either an iPhone or iPad.

I was thinking to start with an iPhone, but does anyone have a recommendation for which way to go (to make the first development as painless as possible)?

I believe as of right now the most popular iOS devices are the iPhone 6 followed by iPhone 5s. Probably a good idea to get a popular device.

I had the same "problem" recently and I purchased refirbished iPhone 5s, as the cheapest iOS device with as minimum 1GB and Touch ID. Wait until 21.03.2016 when Apple is announcing iPhone 5SE that should replace iPhone 5s. After this, I believe the prices on iPhone 5s should drop more.

Thanks, everyone - sounds like the best idea is to get an iPhone and use hosted (i.e., instead of a Mac or iPad).

Sorry, another question on this topic: in shopping for an iPhone, I see that I can get it unlocked and without a SIM card, which I prefer to do (I'm happy with my current Android phone and carrier). If the iPhone doesn't have a SIM card, can I still do development and publishing of the application?

I use a refirbished iPhone 4S you can get these at good prices with a bit of luck (got one for €100).
And I borrow an iPad from my godfather to test if everything fits on that 4:3 based screen (iphone is 16:9)

I also use the hosted builder solution.

I don't have a sim in my iPhone, you just need one to "initialize" the phone but once that is done it doesn't require a sim.
