I want to do a new Basic4Android games showreel for my YouTube channel.
I did two a while ago but want more to do a new updated one. With the advent of the gameview, libgdx and accelerates surfaces, it would be good to see what's new and good to show off.

I think Basic4Android is more for apps than games. If you are really interested in games, then you should check out Unity3d. https://unity3d.com .Pretty much every popular game is made with Unity3d. It now comes with 2d too. It is an awesome piece of software It is now free for even android and iOS devices build. Though there is pro version, the non-pro version is good for pretty much all games

Of course, Java users have more possibilities for games due to the great number of game engines available but it's also true for classic apps: Java users have more libraries, more examples, bigger forums, etc., at their disposal. B4A offers less in many areas, but it offers something different and that's this difference that B4A users need and expect.
Technically, there's no reason to say that B4A is more for apps than games. The performance that you get with libGDX in B4A is exactly the same as the one you get directly in Java.

Pretty much every popular game is made with Unity3d.
Unity is very popular indeed, but mostly for 3D games, and a lot of famous games for Android are not made with it (libGDX, Cocos2D or AndEngine are also very popular engines). Among the most downloaded games (Angry Birds, Temple Run, Fruit Ninja, Candy Crush, Subway Surfers), only Temple Run was made with Unity.

It is now free for even android and iOS devices build. Though there is pro version, the non-pro version is good for pretty much all games
In a B4A forum, where most people have no skill in Java, I wonder what's the reason for promoting Unity. You want to wrap their SDK for B4A? Good news ;)

I am in no way belittling B4A (just learned this shortcut for Basic4Android :)!). I wouldn't have bought B4A if it was not awesome. I was just pointing out that Unity3D is very easy to use and now free for Android , iOS and windows phone 8 build too - so those interested can build games with Unity too. Games in unity can be made with c#, java or boo. All are easy to understand. Angry birds all latest versions are made with Unity 3d. There is no need to port anything to B4A as unity is as easy as B4A (This hides the fact that I don't know how to port ;)). Lastly, Unity is a huge firm- it doesn't need promoting. Microsoft is giving it tons of money for making Unity compatible with Windows Phone 8 .

I did not want to say that Unity is not a great piece of software. It is. But it's wrong to say that every popular games are made with it (it's a marketing speech, not a fact, and AFAIK Rovio only used it for Bad Piggies); it's wrong to say that B4A is better for apps than games (or I made a big mistake by choosing B4A and libGDX for my current game) and your post has a very thin relation with the thread (as mine, I agree). That's why I reacted. And FYI, Unity is free since more than a year. Not very new.

EDIT: I looked at Unity and it seems that's not only a game engine, but a standalone app with its own scripting language. Sorry for my mistake. I thought it was a SDK for Java users.
