Android Question timers?

I'd like to use a few countdown timers in an app. I don't want them disabled if the app is running in the background. I might need to trigger a system notification if the timer reaches 0 (and the app isn't in the foreground.)

Any suggestion?

Put those timers in a service.

OK, I'll look that up. I've got up to 5 timers in my app. They're enabled by the user.

It might be too many, the batteries might drain before the timer(s) are up. ( unless the device is plugged in.)
