v2.02 Installation Conflicts With ZoneAlarm

I thought I'd share my recent experience installing B4A v2.02, in which I discovered that my antivirus software, ZoneAlarm, was causing an incomplete installation.

Installation of v2.02 seemed to proceed flawlessly, as usual with B4A updates. However, the program didn't open at Finish even though I requested it to in the last installation step. I checked Start > All Programs, and found that Basic4Android showed (empty). I then tried to start it via the executable in Program Files, and the program crashed with the "B4A has a problem and must close ..." window. Investigating further I found that the Library folder had no files in it.

The culprit turned out to be my virus protection software, ZoneAlarm. I turned it off, reinstalled B4A, and opened it with no problem (except for the "bad path" message, which is my previous post). I restarted ZoneAlarm and everything works fine.

This is the first time ZoneAlarm has ever conflicted with an application for me. I don't know why B4A conflicts, but this is the solution if your're having difficulties and are running ZoneAlarm.

It will probably be the first of many conflicts...I'm surprised they are still around. I Beta Tested for them for years. The original Firewall was pretty good then they tossed in an average Anti-Virus and started focusing too much on passing tests and looking good. They'd pass all the tests, but real threats got right through. Boot Time was also way too long...any firewall delays startup a bit, but ZoneAlarm was too long. Then there were bugs that went unfixed for multiple versions- One that may even still exist was corrupting HTTP Headers including LastModified Dates so Browser Caching couldn't function properly and pages download every time no matter if it changed or not. They would block all kinds of things and not tell the user too...even when disabled.

I used Comodo too after them which was great then started having issues with it too. The only ones I've had luck with are Eset and Outpost (Outpost has better license model and Windows OS Support, Eset Can work on Linux but split their license model and OS support). Jetico has a nice Pure Firewall too. Might look at other options like these to rid yourself of issues.
