(V6.80) "Error loading ini file"

I am mostly running the beta V6.87 but still have V6.80 as a fallback and for running older code. But the first time I run the latter after re-boot I get a pop-up saying "An error occurred. Error loading ini file." When I click OK the program runs.

Correspondingly, there is no history of previous source files in the "File" menu. Otherwise behaviour is normal.

V6.87 (beta) has the usual past file listing.

There is a B4Pv6.ini co-located with each Basic4ppc Desktop.exe file.

How to repair?

I have this too. The ini file causing the problem is in UserName\Roaming\Anywhere Software\Basic4ppc and is being used by both versions but the version written by 6.87 is not compatible with 6.80 so causing the problem. It will go away when you use only the final version.
