As you probably know, VS 2013 is for free, so I installed it 2 hours ago and got an example working to call my php scripts incl. MySql, decode the JSON sent back and display the results on the UI.
Anyone interested in it?
PS: B4a is perfect. On the PC side, a lot of B4a users may need a Microsoft solution.

You could also upgrade to the free Visual Studio 2013 Community Edition.

First they give you 30 days only.. then the registration process (by logging to MS account) is kind of intimidation because it is too difficult,
