I have been doing alot of reading about getting the websockets up and running. What I am seeing is that on a simple cheap hosting server doesn't really look like it is something that I will be able to do. Has anyone got this setup and running on a shared server? I am in development phase and don't want to put the cash out for a high end server where I can run this stuff. Because I know php/mysql I wanted to use that environment but I did dl and look at the java one provided here and seems pretty straight forward to use but Java is not allowed on the server to be run. If someone can point me in some directions to explore that would be awesome.

thanks

I recomend you to go to a VPS Server, shared servers usually have ports/services closed (for ex: Amazon AWS have a free year VPS Server micro instance product with LAMP (you have to install from a free image))

As you have experience with PHP and MYSQL, I think you'll have to go to a VPS Server.
