Here a B+ from Spain.
I usually donate plasma because I was told my blood type was common here in Spain. But seeing the graphic, it seems that there's a lot of people is 0+, so better for the + people than mine (B+ 8%; 0+ 35%)

I have worked at a Blood Bank. We used to mark all collected bloods as A, B and AB both + and -, but none as O+/-
I was told that O (Universal) is not applicable now. This is more than 25 years before. So I am surprised to see O group in India too.

... and do you Know why?

I read about some unusual blood type and people who donate just for themself because there was just few people with their type.

Didn't That mean that if the didnt have A B etc available they could administer O as a short term solution?
Yes. In fact lots of movies, 50 years ago, used to show that the hero, who happens to be O group, given his blood to save others.

But at the blood bank, which happened to be a hospital of blood related disease, I was taught that giving different blood group to a patient results in other blood related complications. So all bloods were marked A,B,AB (+-) and same given if available.

I do not know what is the criteria or medical science behind it now. We just have to follow what the doctor prescribes.

As long as the doctor's maths is sound or we'll be praying ..... A + B = O my G.

But I do it anyway.
That's great. Here in Spain, when you go to donate, you can make medulla's donor too. It's very easy, just one more little amount of blood and you're entered in a world-wide data base. This is very important because there's very few compatibility.
