Bug? AutoBackups retention changed?

I just noticed that my AutoBackups folder is containing just the last 4 backup files, going back to about a week.
Looking at my archived projects, I saw the, previously, the AutoBackups folder contained more files, going back to as long as 6 month.
Is that a change of the latest IDE versions?

Nothing has changed related to AutoBackups.

Perhaps you never delete earlier backups from your archive and they have built up over time.

sure I don't
I expected AutoBackup to properly rotate log files, and it appears to do so
