Android Question Access bluetooth gamepad from a service

Can i access this Bluetooth Wireless Selfie Shutter Remote Gamepad from a service?

A forum search suggests that i can access the gamepad in an activity by listening for key presses.
But i want to access the gamepad from a service.

Has anyone got any idea if this is possible?

Probably no. Key events can only be intercepted from an Activity.

Any idea whether it's possible to access the gamepad as say a serial device instead of an input device?

Only if it works with RFCOMM or SPP profiles. It is probably implemented with the HID profile which means that the connection is managed by the OS.

Just want to add a resolved comment to this thread.

The bluetooth remote acts as a standard android media playback remote - it can play/stop/pause media.
So in my service i used a little java to listen for remote media control commands - intercepted my bluetooth remote and took some action.
